Southern Alberta History Tour (SAHT)
4.1/4.2 June 2-4
4.3/4.4 June 3-5
Our trip through Southern Alberta is quickly approaching. We are holding a very important parent meeting on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 6:30 - 7:30. We will give you an overview of the trip, detailed volunteer information, itinerary and answer any questions you may have. The information package will be handed out at the meeting that includes itinerary, costs, consent forms and a packing list. All the consent forms will need to be returned by May 20th.
Volunteers: We will require 5 volunteers for each trip, one of whom is required to drive their own vehicle and have a drivers abstract (You will be reimbursed for gas). We are always looking for volunteers with diverse skills which may include experience in hiking, first aid and overnight trips to name a few. If this is something you are interested in and you have a current police security clearance in place, please email your homeroom teacher.

Our grade 6 students gave the grade 4's an unique experience by teaching us about the election and political parties. All our students will participate in a student vote on Monday, May 4 based on what they learned. You are never too young to be informed!
This week students in grade four were testing their bikes to get base line data and see how well the bikes perform. Sample size is a big part of their experimental design. Bike computers are being used to record bicycle performance and the effect of their modifications. These "greasers" understand how the simple machines work and see that they can apply their problem solving skills to new bike systems that they may have had little experience with. Collaboration and the growth mindset have supported risk taking this week. The aroma of WD-40 and grease has been a constant in the grade 4 hallway.
In mathematics students have identified the relationship between mathematics and division using inventive strategies. Students have been introduced to Van de Walle division and have linked their inventive strategies to this algorithm.
- Why did the student eat his division work?
Because the teacher said it was a piece of cake ...

In humanities students have finished the planning stage of their persuasive iMovies and are working on assembling the content. On Friday, students met with groups working on the same focus park to offer suggestions and to learn from each other. Early next week, we will be asking parents to view iMovies and provide some positive and constructive feedback. A form with guiding questions for feedback will be posted on Edmodo. The due date for this project is Friday, May 8th.
