Fourth graders had a very busy week in Humanities, splitting their time between working on their First Nations Mind Maps and beginning the planning and research needed for their persuasive advertisements.
Students created a class mind map of what can go on a burger. This was a fun activity that kept students engaged and got them excited to complete their own mind maps to illustrate their knowledge of First Nations people in Alberta.
Grade fours were divided into groups, by interest, to begin work on their ads for protecting Alberta's parks. Students first jotted down their initial ideas for their advertisements, before moving on to developing and answering research questions. Once their plans and research have been initialed by their teacher, students will begin storyboarding and scripting their 1 minute videos. We are excited about the hard work and ideas coming forth already in this project!
In other Humanities news, the grade 4 team is excited to announce that Ms. Glinsbockel will be assuming the role of 4.1/4.2 Humanities teacher when Mrs. Kelly starts maternity leave next week (April 22nd). Miss Glinsbockel has been a student teacher in Mrs. Kelly's homeroom since January of this year. A letter from both Mr Lonsberry and Miss Glinsbockel was sent home to students of this pod on Thursday afternoon.
Next week, grade 4's will be saying goodbye to our wonderful student teachers, Ms. Perry and Mr. Makasiar. Their last day with us will be Friday, April 24th. Our students have truly benefitted from their thoughtful planning, creativity and enthusiasm!

As the weather is getting nicer and nicer, we will be spending more time outside. Please ensure the students have sunscreen and hats for our adventures and learning in the great outdoors. The 4.4 class had the opportunity to work on their POW in the sun this week.
In both math and science the over riding learning has been about gathering evidence for proof. The students worked through the many steps it takes to accomplish their goals. In science, the students are taking their initial skills they learned from Two Wheel View and going beyond in becoming true bike mechanics and mechanical engineers.
In Math, the students are moving beyond just getting the correct answer but proving that their answer is logical.
