Welcome back! We hope that everyone had a restful spring break and an enjoyable Easter weekend. Things were back in full swing for our fourth graders at Connect this week. In Humanities, students revisited their question wall exploring First Nations culture and prepared additional questions for their visit to the Glenbow museum.
Grade 4's also viewed several advertisements that promoted the preservation of specific habitats, animals and worldly locations. Students used their knowledge of protected areas and persuasion techniques during class discussion to pick apart what was done well within each ad.
In the coming weeks, students will work in small groups to develop their own advertisements, promoting the protection and preservation of parks throughout Alberta. Fourth graders listed their top 4 choices for research after viewing different pic collages from each area.

In science the grade fours are making great strides with their bike modification proposals and they are in their final stages of planning. They have identified their control, independent, and dependent variables. As well they have identified what they believe to be optimal sample size for their testing.
In mathematics students are representing their understanding of multiplication symbolically and concretely. Students have used manipulatives and the area model of multiplication to explore what multiplication really is. Different algorithms have been introduced such as the lattice model and an expanded form of the traditional recording scheme.
Thank you for the support this week regarding the students' bicycle engineering!
