This week Two Wheel View was back to help the students understand friction and how simple machines are important for the braking systems on bicycles. Students used simple machines in the form of wrenches, allen keys, and pliers to assist them in their learning about the systems. Grade 4 students learned how to maintain and repair hand brakes. Perhaps students will modify a braking system to make it more or less efficient and be able to prove the effect of their modification.
This week in mathematics the students were called to generate solutions to better their understanding of 2 digit by 1 digit problems. We dove deep taking an in-depth look at the partitoning strategy. The grade fours continued to solidify their basic facts and understanding of multiples with an engaging game called “Buzz". We concluded the week with a check-in on the students’ grasp on multiplication to date.
